Title: Southeast MN Program Coordinator
Reports To: Minnesota Dairy Initiative State Director and Region Advisory Board
Location: Ideal candidate should reside in one of the following counties: Dodge, Fillmore, Freeborn, Goodhue, Houston, Mower, Olmsted, Steele, Wabasha, Waseca or Winona
Employment Conditions and Pay: This is a part-time position with the potential to become a full-time position in the future. This position is expected to begin around 20 hours a week. The position is compensated with an hourly wage that is negotiable based on training and experience.
MDI Program Summary
Mission: Help existing, potential, and transitioning dairy producers succeed through team-based on–farm education, provision of resources, and networking.
The Minnesota Dairy Initiative is a producer-led initiative that coordinates a comprehensive approach using teams of industry professionals and peers. The use of a team approach provides greater insight into a dairy farm business’ decision-making process, resulting in a customized, flexible approach to improve profitability, enhance performance, and greater opportunities.
A MDI Dairy Team combines the skills and experience of Veterinarians, Feed Consultants, Dairy Field Staff, Lenders, Farm Business Management Instructors, Extension Educators, Dairy Producers, and others to help Dairy Producers identify, implement and analyze business and family goals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Recruit dairy farms from leads supplied by board members, FBM Instructors, lenders, and other sources.
- With the help of the dairy producer, establish a dairy team using the producer’s existing advisors and others the producer may choose for the team.
- Plan and facilitate team meetings, prepare team progress reports, and prepare annual team assessments.
- Recruit, plan, and facilitate dairy peer groups.
- Work with local volunteer team leaders to ensure appropriate delivery and integrity of the MDI program
- Help plan and facilitate other dairy educational efforts in conjunction with industry partners and/or region boards
- Participate in MDI meetings, trainings and events as determined by the State Director or region advisory boards
- Other duties that may be assigned in cooperation with the MDI Board of Directors
Competencies
To perform the job successfully, an individual should possess the following education, competencies, and experiences
- Post-secondary education or relevant work experience; preference will be given to education or work experience in agriculture
- A strong commitment to dairy farm families and a belief in Minnesota’s dairy industry
- Computer proficiency and experience with email, spreadsheets, word processing software and virtual meetings
- A demonstrated ability to work with individuals and groups
- Experience in planning, organizing, providing leadership, appointment scheduling, and practicing effective use of time
Employment Conditions and Pay
The position will require extensive travel in your area, so a reliable vehicle and a good driving record are necessary. Mileage is reimbursed at the IRS rate for business travel; other necessary costs of business are reimbursed by MDI.
Compensation is negotiable based on training and experience. MDI does not provide fringe benefits beyond FICA and workers compensation insurance.
Wage or salary will be reviewed annually in the first quarter of the year during the Program Coordinator’s annual performance review. The review will involve members of the Regional Advisory Board and the State Director. Compensation adjustments may be made and will be based on performance, unique skills and experience, tenure with MDI and available funding.
