Cow Efficiency: Improving Performance Through Genetics, Technology, and Nutrition.

Dairy producers, ag professionals, nutritionists, and industry representatives are invited to attend a free educational event focused on cow efficiency and forage production on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at the Murray County 4-H Building, located at 3048 Broadway Avenue in Slayton.

Hosted by the Minnesota Dairy Initiative and University of Minnesota Extension, this program will explore practical strategies to improve dairy herd performance and profitability in today’s high-cost feed environment. The day begins at 10:00 a.m. with “5 Foundational Learnings on Managing Confections,” followed by a session on genetic approaches to improving feed efficiency in dairy cattle. Lunch will be provided by the Murray County Cattlemen’s Association and Murray County American Dairy Association.

Afternoon presentations include utilizing sensors and technology for on-farm solutions, feeding high oleic soybeans to reduce purchased feed costs and improve cow performance, and a producer panel discussion led by University of Minnesota Dairy Educator Jim Salfer featuring local producers and presenters sharing their experiences with feeding high oleic soybeans.
