Growing up on my family’s dairy farm provided many opportunities for great memories and experiences, but the month of June as a young child holds a special place in my heart. I remember listing for the sound of the milk truck as it would pull into the driveway and racing to the milk house with my brother. Our milk hauler at the time would celebrate June dairy month by bringing a cooler of individual chocolate milks to hand out to the farmers and their families every time he picked up the milk. The refreshing, yet sweet chocolate milk was a perfect mid-morning treat. It may sound like a silly memory, but it’s one that I have held onto as I’ve gotten older.
Along with this memory, I still look forward to our county’s breakfast on the farm, getting ice cream from the Dairy Princesses at local businesses and having an extra bowl of ice-cream at night throughout the month of June. These events are great memories from my childhood and I enjoy getting to see my kids experience these events that honor the dairy industry. Apart from the fact that dairy products are delicious, I enjoy the extra attention that the dairy community receives during the month of June.
Within my role at MDI, it is an honor to work for an organization that supports the success of Minnesota’s dairy farmers. Without farmers like you that work 365 days of the year, I wouldn’t have those great memories from my childhood to pass down to my children. I thank Minnesota’s dairy farmers for their commitment to producing a wonderful product and I applaud them for their commitment, dedication, and hard work, even when times get tough. MDI is proud to aid in the success of Minnesota dairy farmers for many years to come.
