With today’s technology, so much education can be obtained from a computer, phone or tablet. There are webinars, written articles, and video conference meetings that allow dairy farmers to learn about recent industry advancements and stay connected with one another.
While these are all great tools that should be utilized, nothing replaces face-to-face social interaction and education with dairy farming peers. MDI works hard to provide numerous educational events for dairy farmers. These events allow farmers to learn new things for their operations, but also to socialize with one another. This social time is very important, and sometimes we learn more from one another than we realize!
Listed below are some event highlights from the past month. These events provided great education and networking.

- A producer night out event in New Ulm brought in two speakers: Sarah Kern and Pam Uhlenkamp. These speakers talked about financial opportunities for successful dairy operations.
- A producer night out event in Winthrop featured a farmer panel. This panel’s topic of discussion was financial strategies and approaches for optimizing facilities and enhancing productivity. We love hosting events with panel discussions because they allow farmers to ask open ended questions and learn from other’s experiences.
- In Little Falls a producer day out event was held featuring Nathan Hulinsky of UMN Extension. During this event Nathan covered strategies and ideas for transferring farmland across generations.
- A few MDI coordinators attended Central Plains Dairy Expo in Sioux Falls, SD to connect with Minnesota dairy farmers and help them learn about the MDI program.

At MDI we value the work that we do providing education and networking for dairy farmers. We want to thank all of our partners. We would not be successful without them!
