We’re excited to introduce you to MDI Coordinator, Leah Bischof who serves the central region of Minnesota which includes the counties of Aitkin, Benton, Carlton, Cook, Crow Wing, Kanabec, Kandiyohi, Lake, Meeker, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Pine, Sherburne, St. Louis, Stearns, Todd and Wadena. Leah has been with MDI over four years and has her office in St. Cloud, MN.
Tell us about your farming background…
I grew up on my family’s dairy farm which is still in operation today. I help out whenever needed, especially during the spring, summer, and fall seasons. My family is going through a farm transition from my parents to my siblings. I am a specialty cut flower farmer. My daughter and I grow flowers during the growing season for florists, floral designers, CSAs, events, and wholesale.
What influenced your decision to be a coordinator with MDI?
Growing up on a dairy farm allowed me to have a strong passion for the dairy industry. I wanted to be involved here because dairy farmers are fantastic people to work with.
What is your favorite aspect of what you do at MDI?
I enjoy meeting people and getting to help facilitate strategic planning for dairy farming businesses. I enjoy getting to hear the ideas that a team can bring to the table and how that can be used by the farmer to grow stronger efficiencies and overall profitability.
What is your favorite dairy product?
I love Kefir. Cheese is also a really close second.
If you could go back in time and give yourself a good piece of advice, what would it be?
Whether or not you think you can do it, you are probably right.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I enjoy spending time with family, farming, and hunting.
