As the end of August nears, it’s almost that time of year; the Minnesota State Fair! Some people are avid state fair goers, and some prefer to avoid the crowd, but regardless of your stance, it’s hard to deny the amazing opportunity that the state fair is to educate consumers about the dairy industry. As I recall my time spent exhibiting dairy cattle at the state fair, I can’t even remember the number of conversations that I have had with consumers I have had so many. Some conversations are very basic and have included me explaining that yes, that is in fact a cow, not a large dog, while other conversations are much more in depth and help consumers understand things like nutritional information, or why many cows lay on sand.
Each one of these conversations helps to advocate for the dairy products that we all know and love and work tirelessly each day to produce. If you have any spare time, I encourage you to sign up to volunteer at the Moo Booth at the Minnesota State Fair. This is a great opportunity for consumers to draw a connection between the food that they eat and the farmers who produce it.
If you, or anyone that you know is interested in volunteering, you can use the link below to sign up.
