UMN Extension and MDI hosted three Beef X Dairy Insights events across Minnesota in July. The events were in Zumbrota, Foley, and Pipestone.
At the events UMN Dairy Extension Specialist Dr. Brad Heins presented findings from his latest research evaluating the impact of beef sire breeds on pre-weaning performance, carcass traits, meat quality, and economic return. He also shared results from previous studies on early calf health management and its long-term effects.
UMN Beef Educator Melissa Runck covered how to select beef sires for more profitable dairy-cross matings, including market trends, outlooks, and return-on-investment considerations across different marketing scenarios.
Producers that attended the events also heard from a local beef specialist specific to each location. Producers had time to ask questions and enjoyed a nice evening meal all while gaining insights that will help their operations.
